Hi friends!
Over this last year I knew a birth certificate (BC) for the Alaska Abe cruise (I'm leaving Florida for Seattle in 16 days!) would not be a problem because I have a clear tangible memory of eyeing and touching it fairly recently. Felt certain I would know where I had put it "for safe keeping!" Well, here we go, have looked in all of the places that I knew I would have put it. A couple of weeks ago I decided I would order and pay for another one just to be safe. Then this past week-end I went to the State of California site and learned it takes a minimum of 12 weeks to receive it! Oh, but wait, there is a more quick way through the county office - yes that is it - but that takes a minimum of 6 weeks. Hmmmmm..... I am beginning to be a bit nervous. So, I begin to visualize coming face to "foot" (when I was a baby they put our little baby inked foot print on it!) with the certificate. There is only one other place I can think of - in the center of a room, full of heavy boxes, from when many items in our home had to be moved into this one room. I made plans with my son to spend the night with me this coming Friday with the intention of cleaning out that room and eyeing that certificate as I bring it to my breast to hug!!! However, as I am attempting to find relief by visualizing finding it my relief is temporary and continual work. I woke up this AM worried about that BC - I mentioned to a few abetalk folks on the new chat "thingey." People encouraged me to keep on seeing myself finding it. Then as I prepared to leave for the day I came across a Sacramento County Office phone number. I decided I must have that phone number for a reason and maybe I would get someone on the phone that would actually help me out. I called and the greeting went through all of those number options, (You know, if you want this press this, if that press this, etc.....) I listened to the whooooooollllllle lengthy thing and then it gave another phone number to call. The recording also informed, "If you don't get an answer at this number do not give up. Try again. We are expecting heavy call volume and have been very busy lately." So, I called the number and after ONE ring a woman named Nicky picks up the phone! She told me where to download a form, how to complete it, fax it to them and she said she will have my birth certificate back to me in 7 days!!!!!!! I had to run to work but will be faxing my request to them tomorrow and I suspect with laughter I will have at least two birth certificates by the time I cruise - maybe even three!!!!!!
