We are the brave.
Let us count the ways to salvation.
Through the careful nurturing of self-interest?
Through the careful nurturing of my sacrifice for others?
Through the complete indifference to both?
Through the one-eyed pursuit of changing the rules for all?
Let us count the ways.
Through the resignation to despair?
Through the slavish devotion to effectiveness?
Through the satisfaction of immediate fear?
The human experiment.
Prescribe power over others as remedy and consolation.
Proscribe the earthly ambitions in the same breath.
Give no relief to the in-between.
Let us count the ways.
That belittling only reveals the unlimited whole.
That tyrants will always fall, and darkness is temporary.
That from the ashes of the fallen rises eternal attitudes.
And we can’t be broken.
And we cannot ever fall out of reach.
And from the deepest pits of hell I will reach you.
