YouTube- Robert Young talk in Ojai at the Glen Muse Mansion Part 1
I'm still watching it.
One of the points that sticks out -- he talks about communication between people. Says that nowadays it's hard to understand what anyone is saying. Says when people speak, they are sending two communications at once -- one from the mouth, one from the mind. A lot of the times, those two are not lining up. Then the listener's mind has to figure out what is really being said. It interprets the communication and comes up with a lot of thoughts "that are absolutely useless".
He uses the analogy of a director at a TV station. The director has all these TV channels to manage. Its as if he starts to mess around with all the wires, not looking at what he is doing. The result being: in some channels the wrong audio track is playing; in some channels there is a flickering image. You're trying to watch the channel but you can't make any sense of it.
He goes on to say it's like that right now in the real world. Our communication systems are all tangled up. We're receiving mixed messages and static. Our mind is trying to make sense of it all, conjuring up all these thoughts. And suggests that a simple clarity is available.
