One of the best things that I've manifested from studying the Abraham-Hicks material is a much-improved relationship with my father. We had so much contrast in our relationship that we didn't talk for about 12 years. Now we talk about twice a month and it has been really nice. One of the nicest things that we have in common is our interest in Tibetan Buddhism. My father is very active in the Tibetan Buddhist community in Hawaii where he lives, and he even has some friends who are actual Lamas. I love having this connection with him because I feel that it is such a positive thing.

He recently sent me a few books written by the Dalai Lama and DVDs of some of my favorite movies: "Little Buddha", "Seven Years in Tibet", and "Kundun", the Martin Scorcese film about the Dalai Lama. I am very appreciative of all the effort he has put forth in order to have a nice relationship with me.

I recently started chanting mantras as part of my daily spiritual practice and was thinking about getting myself a mala or prayer beads to use with my chanting. They're like a rosary and are used to count the number of recitations that you do. Since I do a lot of crafting with beads, I thought that perhaps I would make one for myself. I've looked at a few online and this past Sunday, I saw some in the bookstore at the Agape Spiritual Center after I attended a service there. I saw one that I really liked and decided to go and purchase some beads the next day to make one just like it. I was excited about my new project, but I never mentioned it to anyone.

Shortly after I returned home on Sunday, I received a call from my father. After we greeted one another, he asked me, apropos of nothing: "Would you like a mala?" :o

The mala that he is sending me is from Nepal. It was made by a Tibetan craftsman out of turquoise beads and was blessed by a Lama before it was sent to Hawaii where he purchased it. He had it blessed by one of his Lama friends before he started using it and he is having it blessed again before he sends it to me.

My father is quite old and not in the best of health, but he's doing fine. He knows that he's going to be making his transition soon and his Buddhist faith is helping him face this new part of his experience with very little fear. I've also been sharing some of Abe's wisdom with him about the death experience and I know that it has resonated with him. As he nears the time for his transition, he has been divesting himself of some of his material possessions. He wants to make sure that they wind up with the person who appreciates them the most. I look forward to using my new mala and I appreciate knowing that my father used it to raise his personal vibration so that we could reconnect and have a better relationship.

I think that my mala will look something like this one:
