I recently saw Amma last July and it was an amazing experience. I had heard about her a year prior through a documentary on her work called Darshan. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of her or has gone and seen her? I know I'm going again to see her since the feeling at the event (or whatever you call it) was simply amazing and everyone was so happy to be there and there were entire families and it went till 7am the next morning.

If you have to pay for a hug, I would rather hug the next child, homeless person, or elderly person and give them some money so they can buy something they need or want. That would feel good to me... just doing it for the joy of it... and unexpectedly!
I understand some people may say they hug this Amma person for the same reason, but... the fact that you have to pay for that hug makes it a cold transaction...
It's perfectly fine if you see it as that, as paying for a service... but don't see it as unconditional love on her part.... cuz... IT IS CONDITIONAL... NO MONEY, NO HUG!!!
To be honest, I didn't read the links that Alex posted, so I'm just basing my post on what it has been said here on this thread, so... I could be wrong lol.

You don't have to pay for a hug or anything, tons of people come out to see her so you have to wait a long time. But I was a bit skeptical when I went but after receiving the hug I was amazed and she does this all over the world and has hugged in India for some 20 hours or so. They do have music playing and other things to do while you wait and you don't stand in line long since you get a ticket.

Really I don't know what she means unless she means all the stuff you can buy. But as far as paying for the hug that's not what I experienced I went and didn't pay a dime for my hug and it was truly amazing and worth all the time.

Do you have to pay for that ticket? :)

Aaah cool! I like her too, Alex...
I was just saying in case the hugs were for sale... I still would have liked her for being so smart and business savvy hehe...
I like free hugs, actually... I have thought about standing outside a supermarket or a big store with a sign that says FREE HUGS... that would be totally awesome! :grouphug:

I saw Amma when she visited LA in June. It was a lovely experience. She does not charge for her hugs however, her organization does accept donations. The money collected supports her tours as well as her charity which has done many amazing things for all kinds of people around the world. Her organization donated over a million dollars to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. She has also assisted in rebuilding the areas that were affected by the tsunami back in '05.
Amma's hugs are viewed as "special" because she is considered to be a living deity. I believe that she is someone who is so TITITO, that receiving one of her hugs raises your vibration. I loved my experience with her.
Before I received my hug, I watched several hundred people receive theirs. Many of the people I saw were obviously distressed about something, it was clearly visible on their faces. After Amma's hug, you could see the obvious relief they were feeling. I particularly enjoyed seeing families with children getting little group hugs from her, it was very touching.
She visits LA at least once a year and I do plan on going again.

I went a few times in London It is called Darshan which is a special blessing from the holy mother you may Q for hours but there is such an uplifting atmosfear, that one already feels in the mood.when it was time to go up, I knealt down in front of her and she put her arms around me, chanted in my ear, looked deep into my eyes, of which hers seemed to be unfathomable,Then she rubbed between the brows and i staggard off. I spent the next hour lying in the floor totaly spaced out. the feeling I can attain now after years of practicing Meditation. I used the feeling to work on current problems of which Amma helps us to eliminate. As to money it cost to hire halls ect but it's purely donation. they sell merchandise. And a beautiful snack area producing the best Indian food ive ever eaten. I had no quarms of the validity of Amma, her tireless work to help those of us who need it most

Though I have not received a hug from Amma, I did receive one from Quan Yin full-embodied by a human. I was one of the few people who did not cry, however the experience was amazing...

after receiving the hug I was amazed
See, this is what I was hearing. Zazen, I would be grateful if you could explain what that amazement was about. Two very significant men in my life have tried to explain and failed, so it could be a gender thing. Or maybe it's something that belongs in The Invisible Room...
I think that each person who receives a hug from Amma has a different experience based on their unique perspective. From my perspective, it has a lot to do with where the person is on the EGS before they receive the hug. I was able to see Amma's interaction with hundreds of people and as I described in my first post, those who appeared distressed in some way, did look quite relieved after receiving their hug. Amma radiates the energy of unconditional love and I can imagine when someone who is in a place of overwhelment, worry, or discouragement comes into contact with that, it is a big vibration-raising experience. Hence, the "amazed" feeling. That's my theory, anyway.
My personal experience was very interesting to me because I went to the event feeling very TITITO. I was with a few of my dear friends who were also on the same vibration. Because it was our first visit with Amma, we were seated very close to her while we waited for our turns. I really didn't know what to expect about my hug, but I did know that it was going to be a profound experience.
When I received my hug, I felt a very deep sense of peace and calm. I thought that I was going be more emotional....I cry at movies, but I had no tears after my hug. At first, I was a little puzzled, and maybe even a tiny bit disappointed. I wondered if I "got it" or if there was something that I missed. I didn't spend too much time thinking about it because I really did enjoy the experience.
On the drive home, my friend who had accompanied me, started talking about her experience. She explained that she also felt very calm and peaceful and appreciative. We talked about the very emotional interactions that we had seen with many of the other people that had received hugs. My friend explained that while it was very moving to see Amma uplifting those who appeared to "dealing with things" , that she felt very happy to be able to receive Amma's darshan with a heart full of love and appreciation instead of sadness and grief. That really resonated with me. I realized that I didn't have that profound emotional response because I went there already very high on the EGS.
I look forward to Amma's next visit to LA and to receiving another hug!
